Toby Severs is a postdoctoral research fellow in meta-optical devices under the supervision of Prof. Ann Roberts at the University of Melbourne, researching plasmonic/dielectric metasurface enhanced optical nonlinearity. Toby received his master’s degree in physics from The University of Sheffield where he continued as a research assistant to investigate the optical properties of patterned and two-dimensional van der Waals materials. Following this, he received his PhD from Imperial College London under the supervision of Prof. Rupert Oulton for research into plasmonic metasurfaces for molecular sensing in the infrared and nonlinear interferometry. His current research interests include, nanophotonics, nonlinear optics, metamaterials, nanofabrication, ultra-fast optics, nonlinear interferometry, nanolasers, epsilon-near-zero materials, quantum imaging, and SNOM.
