Dr Pavel Tonkaev is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Technology Sydney. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University in 2017, his Master’s degree from ITMO University in 2019, and his PhD in Physics from the Australian National University in 2025. Before moving to Australia, he worked as a Junior Research Fellow at ITMO University, contributing to research and teaching in nanophotonics.

Pavel’s research focuses on nonlinear and quantum metasurfaces, with particular interests in nonlinear frequency conversion, chiral nanophotonics, and light–matter interactions in resonant nanostructures. He has co-authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, including Nature Communications, Nano Letters, Advanced Photonics, and ACS Photonics.
