Abstract:

Following the recommendations of the 2025 Strategic Advisory Panel, TMOS has adopted a more proactive and nuanced approach to research translation for 2026–2027, with a stronger emphasis on impact, engagement and legacy. This approach is being advanced through a Centre-wide focus on business development, intellectual property support, industry engagement, and the building of internal translation capability across and beyond the Flagship programs. In this session, Peter will introduce the newly framed TMOS Research Translation Ecosystem and the upgraded Translation Portfolio, outlining how these elements are intended to support researchers at different stages of translation readiness. The session will also highlight the practical support available through TMOS to help researchers strengthen pathways to industry, impact, and commercialisation.

Bio:

Dr Peter Elango is the TMOS Business Development Manager – Research Translation & Commercialisation, where he leads Centre-wide activities at the interface of research, industry engagement and translation strategy. Working closely with the Chair of the Industry Liaison Committee and TMOS leadership, he is driving the development of the TMOS Research Translation Ecosystem and its broader translation legacy agenda. Peter brings an interdisciplinary background spanning science, engineering, entrepreneurship and governance, with experience across academic, industrial and translational settings. His work is focused on strengthening pathways from research to real-world impact through capability building, partnership development, research translation support and ecosystem design. Beyond the love of science and technology, he has longstanding interests in languages, philosophy, and the martial arts.
