I’m Damini Rangaswamy. I began my academic journey at Sree Siddaganga College of Arts, Science, and Commerce for Women, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Science. I furthered my education with a Master’s in Applied Solid State Physics from Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences. Currently, I’m pursuing a PhD at the University of Western Australia (UWA), Perth, within the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering. My research is primarily focused on gaining new insights into defects and defect-related effects in HgCdTe alloys grown by Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) at UWA. The goal is to optimize the material and device level, leading to the realization of higher quality HgCdTe materials. I’m investigating the optical and electrical characteristics of MBE-grown layers and fabricated devices to enhance existing processes. I anticipate that quantifying defects and related effects will necessitate the use of complementary material and device characterization techniques, in addition to Deep Level Transient Spectroscopy (DLTS). This includes Hall effect and noise measurements, dark current and responsivity measurements, and will require the fabrication of optimized device/test-structures.
