The ARC Centre of Excellence for Transformative Meta-Optical Systems (TMOS), in collaboration with the Australian Institute of Physics (AIP) are proud to announce a the TMOS-AIP Rural Student Sponsorship, designed to assist 2x students in non-Metro areas with the costs of attending the 2021 AIP Summer Meeting and help them further their careers.
The sponsorship includes:
- Ticket to the AIP Summer Meeting
- $500 towards flights and accommodation
- 30-minute catch up with TMOS Centre Director Prof Dragomir Neshev to discuss optics and physics career paths
The 2021 Australian Institute of Physics Summer Meeting will be held on the 6th – 9th December 2021 at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Brisbane, Australia.
The AIP Summer Meeting was established in 2017 as the biennial meeting of the physics community in Australia. The AIP Summer Meeting is an inexpensive meeting targeted at Australian-based professional scientists, academics, post-doctoral researchers and PhD students.
Who we are
TMOS brings together some of the country’s foremost researchers in photonics to advance the field of meta-optics. It will develop the next generation of miniaturised optical systems with functionalities beyond what is conceivable today.
By harnessing the disruptive concept of meta-optics, we will overcome complex challenges in light generation, manipulation and detection at the nanoscale. Our research outcomes will underpin future technologies, including real-time holographic displays, artificial vision for autonomous systems to see the invisible, wearable medical devices and ultra-fast light-based WiFi, meeting the evolving demands of Industry 4.0.
- Applicants must live in non-metro area and be studying at an institution based in a non-metro area
- Applicants must be enrolled in a physics Masters or PhD program
How to apply
In less than 100 words, describe your interest in photonics and where you see your career going.
Applications must be submitted to the Application Form before midnight 16th October.
COVID note This sponsorship is for the 2021 AIP Summer Meeting only. Should the in-person meeting be cancelled, TMOS will cover the cost of an online ticket to the meeting but not the $500 for travel expenses.
