A Successful Collaboration: Luyao Wang’s Experience at the University of Oxford
13 Aug, 2024
Luyao Wang recently completed her TMOS Cross-Node and Partner Exchange Award at the University of Oxford, working with the Terahertz Photonics Research Group. Her visit was a resounding success, achieving all intended scientific outcomes and demonstrating the power of collaboration.
The primary objective of Luyao’s visit was to measure the designed performance of a fabricated sample as part of a collaborative scientific project. The measurement results met all intended scientific outcomes, showcasing the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between theoretical calculations, fabrication, and performance measurement. Special thanks to Michael Johnston and Kun Peng for their invaluable supervision and support during the visit.
The success of this visit has paved the way for future collaborations with a publication planned for around October 2024.
Luyao’s visit to the University of Oxford provided her with her first hands-on experience with Terahertz Time-Domain Spectroscopy (THz-TDS), Optical Pump Terahertz Probe (OPTP), and Time-Resolved Terahertz Spectroscopy in free space. She learned the intricacies of THz pulse generation, detection, and the semiconductor material carrier dynamics of pumping. This knowledge is crucial for advancing TMOS achievements with fast-tuning metasurfaces.
One of the highlights of her visit was conducting low-temperature measurements, which offered unique insights and enhanced the precision of the experimental results. These measurements demonstrated the potential of OPTP in various temperature conditions, furthering our understanding of its applications.
Luyao’s experience exemplifies the importance of cross-node and partner exchange programs in fostering scientific collaboration and innovation. Her achievements not only contribute to the ongoing research at TMOS but also strengthen the ties between our partners and collaborators.
