Sumaiya Kabir has been a PhD candidate in the Functional Materials and Microsystems Research Group at RMIT University, Australia, since 2018. Prior to that, she completed her Master’s and Bachelor degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology, Bangladesh, in 2017 and 2014, respectively.
Sumaiya’s research focuses on the phase change oxide-based thin films for electronic and optoelectronic applications. She has developed prototypes such as light sensors, ultra-fast switching devices, and smart window coatings that can be promising for improving integration density, speed, and energy-efficiency of next-generation electronics.
She has published her work in several top-tier journals and won several awards and prizes, including Young Scientist Research Prize 2021 (2nd place in Physical Science category) by the Royal Society of Victoria. Outside research, Sumaiya is involved in several professional and student organizations including the IEEE Electron Device Society, IEEE Young Professionals, IEEE Women in Engineering, IEEE Nanotechnology Council, Australian Materials Research Society (A-MRS), Royal Society of Victoria, and Australian Nanotechnology Network (ANN).
