Research Interest: Mathematical and Theoretical Physics Electromagnetic Theory and Modelling Theoretical and Computational Optics Imaging
Education: Bachelor of Science (Mathematical Physics) - The University of Melbourne (2017-19) Master of Science (Physics) - The University of Melbourne (2020-21) Doctor of Philosophy (Physics) - The University of Melbourne (2022-)
Shaban’s interests lie in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics, including the mathematical modelling of electromagnetic and optical phenomena. He is passionate about the power of mathematics to explain and model the physical world, particularly in areas that can be useful for the community. He also has interests in computational and numerical modelling where the development of experiments and technology require it. He is currently studying the application of statistical optics and electrodynamics to develop novel imaging techniques capable of imaging live biological cells across the electromagnetic spectrum.
Shaban has received various scholarships and awards over his academic career, including a Dafydd Lewis Trust Scholarship, Laby Research Scholarship, N. D. Goldsworthy Scholarship for Physics, Dr. Jean E. Laby and Muriel Ramm Science bursaries, Lift Off Margaret Attwood Trust Education Scholarship, Hilda Trevelyan Morrison Scholarship, Peter Cole Scholarship, Rural & Regional Enterprise Scholarship, Melbourne Access bursaries and PhD scholarships.
Shaban has also represented the Faculty of Science and The University of Melbourne on numerous occasions to present at University-run events and programs, schools and science roadshows, outreach programs, has appeared on regional news television programs and flyers, and has taken on ambassadorship roles for the Faculty of Science.
In his spare time, Shaban enjoys the company of his family and friends, and travelling to his hometown of Shepparton.
