Min Gu was an ARC Laureate Fellow and the Director of the Centre of Micro-Photonics (CMP) at Swinburne University of Technology. He was Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research Innovation and Entrepreneurship at RMIT University, as well as Distinguished Professor and group leader of the Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence Nanophotonics (LAIN). He currently serves as the Executive Chancellor of the University Council and Professor at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology.
Prof. Gu has received many national and international awards. He is an elected Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science (2007) and the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (2006). He became a foreign fellow of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) in 2017. He was awarded the SPIE Dennis Gabor Award in Diffractive Optics (2019), the Ian Wark Medal from the Australian Academy of Science (2014), the Beattie Steel Medal from the Australian Optical Society (2011), the Boas Medal from Australian Institute of Physics (2015), the Victoria Prize for Science and Innovation Victorian Government, Australia (2016) and a Laureate Fellowship from the ARC (2010). His international awards include the Einstein Professorship from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2010), the World Class University Visiting Professorship from the Korean Ministry of Education (2009), , an EPSRC Visiting Professorship (2005), and a Visiting Professorship from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (2000). He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Physics (1999), the Institute of Physics (UK) (2008), the Optical Society of America (2004), the International Society for Optical Engineering (2003), and the International Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (2015). He was President of the International Society of Optics within Life Sciences, Vice President of the Board of the International Commission for Optics (ICO) (Chair of the ICO Prize Committee) and a Director of the Board of the Optical Society of America (Chair of the International Council).
Prof. Gu is an authority in the fields of nanophotonics, biophotonics and multi-dimensional optical data storage with internationally renowned expertise in three-dimensional optical imaging theory. Over his whole career, he have published more than 1000 publications: 2 sole-author research monographs, 2 lead-author books, 19 book chapters, more than 500 internationally refereed journal papers in prestigious journals including Science, Nature, Nature Photonics, Nature Communications, PNAS, Physical Review Letters, Advanced Materials, Light: Science and Applications, Angewandte Chemies etc, over 200 conference papers and 12 review articles; these have attracted a total of more than 19,200 citations and an h-index of 81 (Google Scholar). He is a member of the Editorial Boards of 17top international journals. Professor Gu's research has led to significant impacts on societal challenges in solar energy, information technology and big data storage.
